A PROPRIETARY SIDE TO LINUX BUILDS

EVERYONE,

I JUST CAME ACROSS THE RESURGENCE OF A COMPANY THAT I LOVE, AND I WANT TO SEE IT SUCCEED VERY BADLY, AND IT DAWNED ON ME THAT A WAY TO RETURN TO THE 80'S FEEL OF COMPUTING IS POSSIBLE.

THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE THAT WANT TO SEE A RETURN OF THEIR FAVORITE COMPUTER COMPANIES, AND

IT MAY JUST BE POSSIBLE.

IF YOU TAKE AND BUILD IN KEYS TO A PARTICULAR BUILD, BUT IN A WAY WHERE ITS LIKE DUAL BOOTING WHERE ONE SIDE IS THE REG LINUX (VER) BUILD, AND THE OTHER OS, DUAL BOOT, FASHION IS THE LINUX (VENDOR NAME) (VER) BUILD. AND EACH COMPUTER COMPANY THAT SURFACES HAS ITS OWN UNIQUE KEY SET FOR ITS BUILD VERSION. I THINK WE COULD RE-INTRODUCE A PROPRIETARY SIDE FOR THESE COMPANIES TO GROW THEIR BUSINESS'S IN..

SO WHEN YOU BOOT UP YOU GET

BOOTSCREEN:

LINUX MANDRAKE VERSION N.NN

XYZ COMPUTER CORP LINUX MANDRAKE VERSION N.NN

AND WHEN YOU BOOT TO THE SECOND PROPIETARY BUILD YOU GET ALL THE PROPRIETARY PROGRAMS.

SO THAT PROGRAMMERS COULD FURTHER HELP SPUR DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL SYSTEMS..

KEYSETS, AND ARE IN THE OS , AND ON THE INSTALL OF THE PROGRAMS, SO THAT YOU COULDN'T TAKE YOUR XYZ SOFTWARE AND INSTALL IT ON A MICROSOFT MACHINE, BECAUSE IT WILL NOT WORK, AND YOU COULDN'T

TAKE YOUR . XYZ COMPUTER CORP PROGRAM AND INSTALL IT ON YOUR XYY COMPUTER CORP MACHINE, BECAUSE IT WON'T INSTALL..

COPYRIGHT THE KEYSETS, THEY CAN STILL BE FREE TO THE COMPUTER MAKER, JUST A UNIQUE ID FOR THAT COMPUTER COMPANY.

THE COMPUTER COMPANIES LARGELY HAVE THEIR OWN LAWYERS TO MONITOR COPYRIGHT ISSUES..

IT WOULD ADD TO THE MARKET FOR PEOPLE LOOKING TO MAKE A COMPUTER SYSTEM GO, AND THE ONE I RAN ACROSS TODAY IS DEFINATELY A COMPANY CLOSE TO MY HEART.. I LOVE MY OLD MACHING AND I WANT TO SEE THE RESURGENCE OF THEIR COMPANY SUCEED.

IT DOESN'T ABANDON THE REGULAR USERS OR THE DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY, WHICH COULD GO ON, BUT IT WOULD BLOW THE LARGELY GENERIC CLONE BUSINESS'S WIDE OPEN AND WOULD CREATE JOBS FOR TECHS AND PROGRAMMERS BOTH..

I KNOW ITS A TRIVIAL MATTER, UNTIL YOU START WANTING TO SEE YOUR FAVORITE COMPUTER COMPANY MAKE IT.

APPLES DOES IT, THEY ARE KEPT IN BUSINESS TOTALLY BY LAWYERS..

WHY NOT EVERYONE ELSE??\

ITS SEEMS LIKE A WASTE OF TIME BUT IT IS CLOSER TO GETTING THE MARKET TO SEGMENT AGAIN THEN JUST PURE OS ON A SYSTEM IS LIKELY TO..

YOU WANT THE MARKET TO SEGMENT THAT IS WHAT WAS DEVELOPED OUT OF THE MARKET GOING FORWARD FROM THE 1980'S..

I KNOW ITS STUPID, IT IS, BUT ITS NOT..

WELL THEY GOT THIS REALLY COOL GAME THAT IS ONLY ON XYZ MACHINES...

IT IS A CREATED 80'S ENVIRONMENT FOR THESE COMPUTER MAKERS WHERE EVERYTHING IS PROPRIETARY, THERE IS NO REAL NEED FOR IT, BUT IT GIVES THOSE LITTLE COMPUTER COMPANIES A LITTLE BIT OF LEVERAGE TO USE IN THEIR COMPUTER BUSINESS..

THEY ARE TRYING WITH THE OS BUILD ITSELF, OBUNTO, OS X, BUT THAT WORKS SLIGHTLY AGAINST THE COMPUTER MAKERS IN THAT, THEN THEY ARE RIDDING THEMSELVES OF A CORE GROUP OF USERS WHO ARE JUST PRACTICAL.. BUT DUAL BOOTING LINUX REG BUILD/PROPRIETARY BUILD DOESN'T.

AND YOU COULD STILL TRIPLE BOOT IF YOU WANTED 2,

WIN 7 / LINUX REG VER / LINUX PROPRIETARY BUILD.

ANYWAYS THANKS FOR YOUR TIME..

That seems pretty questionable to me. I see you point about giving those companies a unique advantage over their competitors, but limiting the hardware that a software can run on will only limit their potential customer base. If as company makes hardware, but has built a particularly useful application it would be more beneficial to ship it in binary format with as a paid product to general consumers and include a free version for their direct customers as many have done before or to included a light-wight free opensource version with most of the features as a teaser to get people to purchase their software or hardware.

My point is that when a hardware company makes software it only limits their potential when the segregate their software from competitors hardware, if they develop software then they can sell software and extend their potential customer base rather than limiting it.
