Hello,

I can see the commands you have typed in.  One issue may be the interface you are typing into the local.conf file. Amazon recently changed the names of the interfaces. There is an errata PDF which I beleive references this and a couple other issues.  Try it with

    localrc HOST_IP=192.168.97.1 FLAT_INTERFACE=ens3 #<<<<<<---This line here MULTI_HOST=1 LOGFILE=/opt/stack/logs/stack.sh.log ADMIN_PASSWORD=openstack MYSQL_PASSWORD=DB-secret RABBIT_PASSWORD=MQ-secret SERVICE_PASSWORD=SERVICE-secret SERVICE_TOKEN=ALongStringUsuallyHere enable_service rabbit mysql key

Also, it would be helpful if you could post an error code. Whereever the ./stack.sh script fails, usually the previous 10 or 20 lines of output will indicate where the issue may be.

    Regards,

I try the ens3 and ocata release and works fine!!!

    Thanks!

  • The stack.sh stops here with the following error:

    error: pathspec 'stable/newton' did not match any file(s) known to git. 2017-11-02 13:38:39.525 | +functions-common:git_clone:1 exit_trap 2017-11-02 13:38:39.530 | +./stack.sh:exit_trap:494 local r=1 2017-11-02 13:38:39.536 | ++./stack.sh:exit_trap:495 jobs -p 2017-11-02 13:38:39.542 | +./stack.sh:exit_trap:495 jobs= 2017-11-02 13:38:39.547 | +./stack.sh:exit_trap:498  -n   2017-11-02 13:38:39.553 | +./stack.sh:exit_trap:504 kill_spinner 2017-11-02 13:38:39.559 | +./stack.sh:kill_spinner:390 '[' '!' -z  ']' 2017-11-02 13:38:39.564 | +./stack.sh:exit_trap:506  1 -ne 0  2017-11-02 13:38:39.570 | +./stack.sh:exit_trap:507 echo 'Error on exit' 2017-11-02 13:38:39.570 | Error on exit 2017-11-02 13:38:39.575 | +./stack.sh:exit_trap:508 generate-subunit 1509629646 273 fail 2017-11-02 13:38:39.809 | +./stack.sh:exit_trap:509  -z /opt/stack/logs  2017-11-02 13:38:39.819 | +./stack.sh:exit_trap:512 /home/ubuntu/devstack/tools/worlddump.py -d /opt/stack/logs 2017-11-02 13:38:40.192 | +./stack.sh:exit_trap:518 exit 1 ubuntu@devstack-cc:~/devstack$

the local.conf contains serevicz's comment from earlier. However the error seems to be

  • seems like it's erroring out on different things:

    2017-11-02 13:52:03.486 | +lib/keystone:configure_keystone:204 cp -p /opt/stack/keystone/etc/policy.json /etc/keystone 2017-11-02 13:52:03.487 | cp: cannot stat '/opt/stack/keystone/etc/policy.json': No such file or directory

    Thanks soosgyul,

That helps a lot. Seems the policy.json file is no longer used. It should not effect an older version, but it does. Seems the new file to use is /etc/policy.v3cloudsample.json.   I will try to figure out the steps to get this to work.

    Regards,

I have not tested all the steps, but the simple fix, so far, is to use the pike release. so the clone command ends with  -b stable/pike

The BUI looks a little different, but the steps are mostly the same. I will continue to look into the differences and update the errata file.

    Regards,

  • Using "Pike" has not helped me -> I'm [still] unable to install devstack in Lab#2 because of this failure:

  • It's just typical...

About 5-6 months ago, I finally had some time, to do this course, but there was this big issue with the whole course and it's dependency on the devstack repo, where we could not run it properly. Then time passed, and about a week ago sat down to restart the whole thing. Of course there is some issue with the repos, and we can't run the labs.

Why can't the whole devstack and all it's depencecies be forked just for this course? And update the labs and this fork on a regular basis, but without any hickups and delays and negative comments from me? :)

Is there an ETA of when I'll be access my course? My time will run out in December.

  • First of all, OpenStack Pike doesn't support Ubuntu 14.04 trusty anymore and to allow stack.sh to execute on this OS you have to "FORCE" it from the local.conf. Unfortunately, even after doing so, it seems that multiple packages have changed their names from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 and thus fixing it all manually doesn't really make sens (I have tried that and gave up after a few of them).

Upgrading the OS is also not an option, after updating it to 16.04 and rebooting the machine it doesn't come up at all.

I am in the same situation as soosgyul, I had first attempt to go through the course a few months ago and had to skip a few labs due to issue with OpenStack Liberty and came back to it now hoping that with Newton everything will work just fine, but it doesn't seem so :/ I fully agree with soosgyul's comment below that you need to somehow solve the issue with constant issues with the installation, although I can imagine that it has to be a Sisyphean task.
