In the archive LFD201_V2020-08-07_SOLUTIONS.tar.bz2, the file SOLUTIONS/s_18/lab_wastemem.c seems to be a bash script.

But in the other archive LFD201_V2021-06-30_SOLUTIONS.tar.xz, the file is a C program and works well

You are using an oboslute version of the Solutions. Please use LFD201_V2021-06-30_SOLUTIONS.tar.xz. I'm not sure where the error came from but the current version is just fine

In lab 26.3, the script compiles file lab3_write.c instead of file lab_write.c. But everything works otherwise
