I want to install a Brother printer but I need to know how to find the relevant information on my laptop in order to get the proper driver from the Brother website. Below is the choice I have. How do I find this information on my laptop?

Download / Format /Version /Size /Release Date

LPR driver /rpm /1.0.1-1 /1087 KB /2008.Feb.13

cupswrapper driver /rpm /1.0.1-1 /15 KB /2008.Feb.13

LPR driver /deb /1.0.1-1 /1087 KB /2008.Feb.13

cupswrapper driver /deb /1.0.1-1 /13 KB /2008.Feb.13

What distro are you using? Is it rpm based or deb based? If you don't know, give us the name of the distro and we'll tell you.

Please bear with me, I know absolutely nothing about Linux and the lingo you are using.

    What is distro?

To select the proper printer driver, I need to find out the difference between LPR and cupswrapper, and between rpm and deb
