Can attachments be extracted from MSG files without Outlook installed?

I received a folder full of MSG files from a colleague, but Outlook is not installed on my current system. I only need the attachments stored inside those emails and do not necessarily need to open the messages themselves. Is there a practical way to extract attachments directly from MSG files without depending on Outlook? Looking for solutions that work well with large numbers of email files.

Yes, attachments can be extracted from MSG files without Outlook, but the normal manual method will not work well if Outlook is not installed. MSG files are Outlook email files, so opening each one usually depends on Outlook or another supported viewer.
For your case, where you only need attachments from many MSG files, a separate extractor makes more sense. You can try Softaken MSG Attachment Extractor for this job. It works without MS Outlook and can process multiple MSG files at once. It can save attachments like PDF, DOC, XLS, ZIP, PNG, TXT, HTML, and other common file types into a separate folder.
Before running it on the full folder, make a backup copy of the MSG files. Then test a small batch first. If the attachments come out correctly, run the remaining files together.
