Postman binary fails with segmentation fault
Hi all,
I am trying to run podman binaries on a kubernetes master node (Ubuntu 22.04), with kubernetes version 1.33.1. This is part of one of the training lab exercises for LFD259.
Binary is podman-linux-amd64.tar.gz from mgoltzsche GitHub project, version 5.22.2.
The binary does always fail on my node with segmentation fault and there is not much logging I can enable to troubleshoot the issue.
Does anybody know the issue and can recommend a fix?
Thanks
Cristian

Hi @cvairo955,
I am not finding any reference to postman in the lab guide, but podman installation has been working on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (the current lab guide recommended OS) and on the earlier 20.04 LTS. I do not remember testing the installation on Ubuntu 22.04 - however, a quick web search revealed the presence of some known bugs, causing installation issues on Ubuntu 22.04.
Does the node have sufficient resources? Is the disk fully pre-allocated?

Hello @chrispokorni,
Thanks for your comment. Obviously it is not postman but podman having the issue, my bad.
The node seems to be in good shape, I also looked at the mentions to known bugs but I could not identify anything immediately related to the os version.
Do you recommend an upgrade of Ubuntu from version 22.04 to 24.04 LTS? Is this going to break my cluster (v1.33)?Thanks your help, appreciate.
Best

Hi @cvairo955,
I would recommend setting up the lab environment based on the lab guide. In a virtual environment (local or cloud VMs) spinning up a new instance with the desired OS is much easier than going through a full OS upgrade. However, an OS upgrade should not adversely impact an existing cluster.

Sounds good. I will proceed with the upgrade then.
Thanks for the help.Cristian
