Lab 8.1. Create a New cgi Script-Enabled Directory

Hello,
I have followed the steps on the lab and at the end, when the instructions prompt to restart apache2, the service fails here is the message I get when I ask for the status:

● apache2.service - The Apache HTTP Server

A few questions come to mind;

-what is the location of the /new-cgi/ directory? I have created it in my home directory, but I am not sure that is the correct place

-checking the error log, there is not a registration of this error, it is blank the latest error.log

Please let me know how to set the service back on track

Thank you!

  • nevermind :)

    I had to do:

    sudo a2enmod socache_shmcb

  • When I check the script at the end by clicking in:

    http://localhost/scripts/foo.cgi?bar

    I get

I am guessing this is not the result expected; do you all know what is the expected result?

  • Can anyone here pls provide input as to my question above?

  • Looks like there is no support from the linux foundation staff in this case...

  • Same thing with the lab 8.2

    lynx -dump http://localhost/foo/bar
    Not Found

The requested URL was not found on this server.
    __________________________________________________________________

Apache/2.4.41 (Ubuntu) Server at localhost Port 80

All the previous procedures check ok - that is, I am able to carry the steps w/o error.

Does anyone here know what is going on with my final step
    ?

  • lynx -dump http://localhost/magic/index.html
This file is a magic include file

    Foo include below

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

    Bar include below

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

Anyone here know on Lab 8.4 what might be causing this error ^^ thanks!

I don't see a copy of your "magic" file, can you please post it.
All of the configuration files used in the web server exercises are in the "SOLUTIONS" directory. They may help.

There is a map for the location of all the files for the web server (chaps 7 and 8) located in the beginning of the Chapter 7 labs instructions.

One of the common issues is the file foo.cgi needs to be executable.

The expected output from the cgi script is the file name and file type, I'll have to confirm that.

Here is the copy of the magic.conf file ^

    the foo.cgi is executable:

    -rwxrwxr-x 1 ncerquera ncerquera 85 Dec 15 01:34 foo.cgi

can you pls confirm the location of that file ( foo .cgi ), that is, where it should be? The instructions say:

""Create the script/new-cgi/foo.cgiwith the following contents (you may have to create the directory/new-cgi/)"" but it does not say where that directory must be.

The directory is "/new-cgi" the file is "foo.cgi". Probably not the best place for a cgi scrip to live but it makes the configuration simpler
