Quake 4 Sound Problems

Hi,

I've recently downloaded the Linux binaries for Quake 4 and installed it. Everything runs fine... graphics is working, music and sound effects too. But I can't get the speech to work, whenever a character talks I hear one beep and the character's lips move in utter silence. Could someone please help me out?

    The issue with the voice recordings may be due to your system not having the codec or library needed to play the audio files that are used for those voice sequences. What distro are you using and have you contacted ID games about this issue yet?

    I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, don't know what codecs Quake 4 might need for the speech.
