Does Yellow Dog Linux work with Wine?
Comments
-
I found a discussion at http://www.yellowdog-board.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4087&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a which answers the questions and says no, because the CPU architecture of a PS3 is PPC and the game was built to run on X86.
There is an ubuntu derivative case psubuntu (http://psubuntu.com/).0 -
So what if i put ubuntu on it and used Wine would it still not work because the computer and ps3 are different?0
-
That is correct, but in the discussion I linked ot they stated you can use qemu to emulate an x86 system, but the video and performance will be highly degraded and not capable of running newer games.0

Wine doesn't emulate hw and it has a lot of x86 asm code. There is no chance to use Wine on Power Architecture machines.0

Well, I wouldn't completely the dismiss the posibility right away ... It's *possible* that using a hardware emulater to run the wine stuff *might* work. Essentially, run Linux as the host OS on the PS3, then use QEMU to run wine to run the game. It might take some effort, it's probably not the most efficient approach, but then again, the Cell processor is pretty diesel, so who knows? If I had a PS3 to play with I would give it a whirl (or any other Power Architecture board for that matter).0
