Most labs have no public address.

ip a s eth0

2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP group

default qlen 1000

    link/ether bc:76:4e:04:43:4c brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

    inet 198.61.196.22/24 brd 198.61.196.255 scope global eth0

       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

    inet6 2001:4800:780e:510:be76:4eff:fe04:434c/64 scope global

       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

    inet6 fe80::be76:4eff:fe04:434c/64 scope link

       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

Restarting the network is not something we are allowed to do.

service networking restart

stop: Job failed while stopping

start: Job is already running: networking

I am unsure of how to deal with this. yesterday i used the restart button and got a "Status: Something is wrong; we don't know what's happening with this server." so i am loathe to keep doing that.

    Hello,

    From the output you showed you did have a public IP address: 198.61.196.22

    There are several different possible IP ranges in use, including the IP you posted.

    Regards,
