How to install ubuntu/lime to a HP laptop harddrive?

Options

Hi. I've got a 3 year old HP laptop (pavilion dv7 2126eo) This laptop had Windows Vista installed originally which I upgraded to 7, and the whole laptop crumbled after about 2 months. I contacted Hp support and nothing happened for 2 months. Meanwhile I bought a Linux magazine with a Ubuntu 11.10 disc enclosed. I then removed the drives from the HP and formatted them and installed them back. After I installed Ubuntu it will only boot from the original disc and not from the harddrive. Ive tried to get it working from the HP start up menu; but it always claims the startup disc. What am I doing wrong. Please help me, I'm searching for a new OS for me and my small company. Hope you can help me and prove that Linux can be used professionally.

Since ubuntu has been installed to the hard drive, what does the computer do or display when you attempt to boot it without the installation CD in the computer?
