I was wondering, are the apps the same for all distros?
Can you find the same app and the fedora center, that you find on the ubuntu center?

Apps are basically the same for all distros. Older distros, or should I say more stable distros might have older versions of the same applications, and, they may be compiled differently if one distros compiler is a different version, but, they are basically the same.0

At the end of the day, no matter what distro you use, you should be able to use the same software on it. Often certain distro's might add their own touch. Small things like adding additional functions to Tomboy, or Empathy IM,but then if you know how to code, you can do all this yourself by just downloading the source code and changing what you like.0

What version of an application will run on your system depends upon the system and other library dependencies it has. On the newest systems, the newest versions of most applications should be just fine. Ones that you find in your distribution's repositories will have been compiled and run on your version just fine. Sometimes, you want a newer version than you will find in your distribution's repository, so you may need to download and build from source code. Usually a source package has a configuration tool that will look at your system and tell you what you are missing to get it to build, or what features to disable to effect the same.0
