Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS Slow WIFI with USB adapter

Hello! I finally got dual boot set up on my PC. Ubuntu is really good with the exception of my browser being extremely slow. I ran speedtest and at most I was getting 1.5 Mbps. With Windows I usually get around 30-50. I've tried various things like turning off IPv6 (which stopped the wifi from disconnecting) and entering commands to disable N on the network card. However, I am thinking that a lot of the command lines aren't working because I'm actually using a USB wifi dongle. A lot of the commands just give me errors. I am at work right now but can copy and paste text if needed. I would appreciate if anyone can offer me suggestions to fix this. Thanks.
