Why can't Microsoft Outlook open DBX files directly, and what's the alternative?

I recently found some old Outlook Express DBX files and wanted to access them in Microsoft Outlook. However, Outlook does not seem to support DBX files directly. Can someone explain why Outlook cannot open DBX files and what the recommended alternative is for accessing or migrating this data? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I also faced this same confusion when I first came across old DBX files from Outlook Express. I tried opening them directly in Microsoft Outlook, but it simply doesn't work. The reason is rather simple-DBX is an older storage format used by Outlook Express, while modern Outlook uses PST format, so they are not compatible with each other.

At first, I tried searching for manual import options, but Outlook doesn't provide any direct way to read DBX files. Even using older systems was not helpful unless Outlook Express was installed, which is not common anymore.

So the easy way out was to convert my DBX files to PST format so that Outlook could read them properly. To make this happen, I went with Softaken DBX to PST Converter when I found myself in such situation. It worked perfectly fine, allowing me to load all of my DBX files and move everything into PST so that I can open them up in my Outlook without issues.

If you are trying this for the first time, I suggest you try converting just a few files from your list by using the free demo first before going ahead with the entire conversion process.
