How to Open OLM File on Mac OS?
If you have an OLM file and want to open it on Mac, you are not alone. Many users export their Outlook data and later struggle to access the file. In this post, we will explain what an OLM file is and how you can easily open it on a Mac system.
TL;DR: To open an OLM file on Mac, import it into Microsoft Outlook for Mac by going to Tools → Import → Outlook for Mac archive file (.olm). If Outlook is not available, you can use a third-party viewer like Cigati OLM Viewer for Mac to open and preview OLM emails, contacts, and attachments without installing Outlook.
What is an OLM File?
An OLM file is a data archive used by Microsoft Outlook for Mac. It stores mailbox items such as emails, contacts, calendars, tasks, and notes. These files are usually created when users export Outlook data for backup or migration purposes.
Since OLM files are specifically designed for Outlook on macOS, they cannot always be opened directly in other applications or platforms.
Method 1: Open OLM File Using Outlook for Mac
If you have Outlook installed, you can import the OLM file directly.
- Open Outlook on your Mac.
- Go to Tools → Import.
- Choose the Outlook for Mac archive file (.olm).
- Select your OLM file and click Import.
After importing, all emails and mailbox data will appear in the “On My Computer” folder in Outlook.
Method 2: Open OLM File Without Outlook
Sometimes users do not have Outlook installed or only want to preview the data. In such cases, a dedicated OLM viewer tool is a better option.
You can use Cigati OLM Viewer for Mac, a reliable utility that allows users to open and view OLM files without Outlook. This tool helps you:
- Preview emails with attachments
- View contacts, calendars, tasks, and notes
- Access large OLM files safely
- Maintain the original folder structure
It is especially useful when you only need to read or analyze OLM data without importing it into Outlook.
Opening an OLM file on Mac is easy if you have Outlook installed. However, if Outlook is unavailable or you only need to preview the data, using a dedicated viewer like Cigati OLM Viewer for Mac can save time and effort.
