Lab 5.1. Working with Groups

Hello with my next question =)

  1. Login as
    rocky
    . Create a directory called
    somedir
and set the group ownership to
    bosses--this is the task...

so my question is why is the permission denied to cd to /home altough they are all in the sudoers file?

thank you for your patience and support

regards berni

    Hi Berni,

I went through the lab and I didn't experience the same issue. What distro and version are you working with?

The only thing I did different is that I used 'adduser' to create the users, instead 'useradd'. In your case it seems the user rocky can't list any of their own files on its home directory. So I'd do the following, perhaps with another user with sudo permissions:

    luis@ubuntuserver:~$ cd /home/
    luis@ubuntuserver:/home$ ls -l
    total 12
    drwxr-x--- 2 bullwinkle bullwinkle 4096 Dec 11 10:42 bullwinkle
    drwxr-x--- 17 luis luis 4096 Dec 11 11:00 luis
    drwxr-x--- 6 rocky rocky 4096 Dec 11 10:57 rocky

So the rocky home directory has to have rocky as user and rocky as group. And some basic permissions to the rocky user.

    Regards,
    Luis.
