On reboot get into the GRUB menu and choose "advanced options for LM" followed by selecting recovery mode.
From the menu, choose root – Drop to root shell prompt.
Once you’re at the root shell, type:

    passwd username

Note : Replace username with your actual login name.

    Enter a new password twice.

    Then:
    reboot

On most Linux Mint (LM) login screens there’s a “Forgot password?” or you can drop into the recovery mode from GRUB. From there, you can reset the password for your user account.

Use a password manager , that way, your password stays safe and you don’t have to rely on memory (which clearly betrayed you this time 😉).
