Latest LWN Distributions List

Options

Hello Folks,

I came across this link in the course here https://lwn.net/Distributions/ . This was last updated on 31-Dec-2021. Is there any active/latest version of this list available anywhere else?

Thanks!

  • This is a problem with Internet resources. Companies and people come and go. Things go out of date. Search engines are your friends. I did a search for "Linux Distribution List" (and you can, too) and found some more recent resources (but, again, these may not be up to date years from now): Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_distributions) and (better) DistroWatch (https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=major) just to mention two of them. Keep in mind that there is no one organization responsible for tracking all of the Linux Distros that exists at any one time. What we call "the big three" have been around for a long time, but that can change at any time. As we often say in computer science, the one thing that is constant is change. I hope this helps.

By the way, I have been going through the LFS101 course material and updating where I notice things out of date and wrong. I think I may have fixed this reference for a future update of the course coming later this year, but, again, it is difficult to find and fix all of them. If you find typos, mistakes and things very out of date, please do report them and we'll try to address those problems. Thanks!!!
