Proof & Supported Files for Kernel Version Task

The task states

Generate a patch to the Makefile to add an extra version field and boot that kernel and send patch Shuah Khan skhan@linuxfoundation.org Upload proof and generated patch and send email to Shuah Khan skhan@linuxfoundation.org

  1. What is sufficient proof? I have a screenshot of grub with the new version, a screenshot of uname -r showing the kernel running, and a patch file
  2. What files are supposed to be uploaded? I can't upload any images or my file.patch file

Use git-send-email to send your .patch file. You can't submit .patch files through the portal, so you should include an image or text version of your patch in one of the allowed doc formats.

@rujrabhatt I have prepared a pdf in which I have described intermediate steps and in the end or beginning of that pdf I provide a link to the patch file which is uploaded on google drive. Is this way fine?

hi @akshayajddn have you sent these to shuah khan via email and same upload on dashboard? as long as you have proper answer , that might work, but should always send patch via git send-email to shuah(recommended). should setup git send-email in your git repository, setup your email ID. Note : Also i do not confirm your way of submission is valid or not it all depends upon mentor team.

Yes I have sent the same pdf files to Shuah and uploaded the same on the portal. Nevermind, I will send patch via git-send-email also.

In addition to the above question, I was having an issue with git-send-email, and the deadline was near. That's why I sent Shuah a patch, source code, make file, and dmesg.

So, will that be considered? Or should I try now with send-email only for tasks with the 10th as the deadline?

Feel free to post your problem with send-email here if you want. I had a few students help me out with fixing mine (I didn't have google's 2FA enabled, wasn't using an app password, and my vpn was causing issues)
