Help with conversion from Windows to Linux

Hi folks, I have tried a couple of times to convert to Linux using Ubuntu and Mint. My problem is that I am a Land Surveyor and I use AutoCAD and other professional software in my business. I have not been able to find a way to make the software run on my Linux system. I tried using Wine but failed and do not know how to figure out what to do to fix it. My experience with the command prompt is very limited. Is there anyone out there who has figured out how to load Carlson Civil, Carlson Survey, ICAD or AutoCAD into a working Linux system? I am trying to abandon Windows permanently.

Thanks, Gene

  • I'm not sure if this is a viable alternative, but I see that autocad has a web version also available. Is this something that could be a solution for you?

I am not sure if alternatives like BricsCAD or freecad are useful specifically for your case.

Another option that you could analyze is to have a virtual machine that you only use for AutoCAD. It is not a desirable alternative, but in some cases it is a viable option.
