Office hours - Jun 6 (LFS258)

Hello,

Today we clarified a few lecture concepts:

Chapter 8

  • Q: Do the hostPath and emptyDir volume types allow for data to be shared by application pods deployed to different nodes in the cluster?
  • A: No. The empty directory and the host path are created on the node where the pod is deployed, therefore keeping local all the data that is produced by the application.

Chapter 8

  • Q: Can the nfs and cephfs volume types be used in local setups where cloud storage services are not available?
  • A: Yes. The nfs and cephfs can be installed on local systems and made available to the cluster, thus allowing them to be shared by cluster applications.

-Chris
