how to reduce size of initramfs?

I am building my orgs kernel and due to policy, /boot is only 1G. After only installing 2 kernels, space is pretty much used up. I hhad to move rescue initramfs image to some other location to generate initramfs for newly built kernel and to fit into /boot.
I noticed with newly generated initramfs, size is twice as big as other kernel. Is there a way to reduce initramfs size? Any tricks?
I built new kernel with KERNEL_GENERIC_PTDUMP option, not sure if this is a cause for swelling.
