Exercise 19.2 - Using virt-manager with KVM to Install a VM - problem with QEMU

Hello,

i´m at exercise 19.2 now.
I am able to install the VM via virt-manager so far everthing is working.

but i have a annoying issue with qemu / kvm.
When i boot the tinylinux image. On the desktop my mouse control is working.
but the keyboard is not.

i´m trying to find a solution already by searching in forums and so on... it looks like i´m not the only person who face this problems with VM images on KVM/qemu.

i tried adding different types of keyboards to the virt-manager config - no luck.
added another physical standard usb keyboard to my laptop no luck. (its working on my ubuntu system) but not inside qemu / KVM (tinylinux)

anyone who has faced this too and got a solution or a hint ?

found the solution by myself after hours of try and error since yesterday, this can be closed. :-)

after switching to another VNC tool.
I changed to tigervncserver on the remote and tigervncviewer on my mainsystem.

and only a very small xstartup config in my folder: ~/.vnc/xstartup

    xrdb $home/.Xresources
    startxfce4&

when i now start the vnc session and connect to the remote desktop, the virt-manager can load the tinylinux image with working keyboard and mouse.

so looks like the VNC tool was the rootcause.

  • Hi @uthelion, I'm glad you were able to fix the issue. VNC software can generate some issues like that. It would save some time if you can avoid using it, and work with local VMs or cloud VMs instead.

    Regards,
    Luis.
