I have exactly the same question too. How does one resolve it?

Here is what worked for me:
1. k8s version v1.23.1
2. wget https://run.linkerd.io/install #instead of install-edge
3. change the version to 2.10.0 (stable) rather than 20.9.2 (edge)

That was enough to install linkerd cleanly

Also have to run these commands:

linkerd viz install | kubectl apply -f -
linkerd viz check
