Filesystem on top of ext4 /xfs for reading millions of small files in a single directory

Hi,

We have ubuntu 20 based system. We have requirement to read millions pf small image files from one directory from multiple servers. Which filesystem / protocol to be used to imporve read performance? XFS / Ext4 is not working.
