Clarification needed

In the discussion: Types of Virtualization Hypervisors, it's stated that:
_The hypervisor can be:

  • External to the host operating system kernel: VMware

I'm wondering if that should be VMware Workstation since their ESXi offerings are are also integrated kernels, similar to KVM.
I think it'll be helpful to make that distinction since the next section clearly states that:
VMware ESX (and related friends) is an example of a hypervisor embedded into an operating system.​
