DNS & Apache2 on Linux ubuntu server

Hello,

I want to learn networking to pass eventually CCNA 201-301.

I have a specific question regarding IP address resolving.

The actual dns server is located at 192.168.1.4. And I also installed Apache2 to run http serve in the same host. Apache2, there's a default web page if I type 192.168.1.4 in a browser. Also, I added another site gci.example.com.

My question!
I really don't understand how the dns knows that gci.example.com is 192.168.1.4. I never specified this information in dnsmasq.conf. So, how does it work exactly? I am little bit confused here...

Thanks
