start timer in hardware watchdog framework (bcm2835_wdt.c)

I'm trying to start the watchdog timer within the watchdog framework itself.

later i'll use some script in user space to keep kicking the watchdog.

i tried setting up watchdog.open_timeout=30 in /boot/cmdline.txt (raspberry) nothing worked.

is there a way to start the counter by the kernel
