Where Do I Start - I Want To Rescue an Unmountable Drive ?

I have an internal Western Digital 2T drive from a windows machine that can't be seen by Windows but can be seen by a Linux Mint machine. The Mint machine says that it cannot be mounted.
Googling around I've learned there's a thing called ddrescue and googling it I saw a page where it said it's better if the disk isn't mounted.
Wow... sounds perfect...
But where, how to start? I have the use of this Mint machine but I have only a poor knowledge of Mint or Linux generally.
I can possibly get help in this great looking forum but I might be in the wrong place right here... where should I be to ask for help on this?
