Lab 1 second time's the charm? curl gpg key and adding Docker repo

Hi I'm going through Lab 1 the second time just for practice as the first time went through flawlessly. I started with a fresh vm instance and this time I ran into issues. When I curl Docker I got the following:

student@ubuntu:~/Downloads$ curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux.ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add -
curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.

So I did a workaround by doing this:
student@ubuntu:~/Downloads$ wget https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg
student@ubuntu:~/Downloads$ sudo apt-key add gpg

Then I ran into error with sources.list when adding Docker repo:
student@ubuntu:~/Downloads$ sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64]https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) stable"
E: Malformed entry 58 in list file /etc/apt/sources.list (URI parse)
E: The list of sources could not be read.

So I went into source.list and edited line 58 as I noticed a missing space:
deb [arch=amd64]https://download.d.....
So I added a space between [arch=amd64] and https://download

Now I'm getting the following error:
student@ubuntu:~/Downloads$ sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) stable"

Not sure if I'm going the right direction.

Please help.

    Update:

I decided to try from the beginning again with a new vm and lo and behold it went through flawlessly.
More than likely I missed some steps the previous time. All's good.

    Thanks.
