Lab 2: Error: can't read the block: &{NOT_FOUND}

When executing the following command (near the end of Lab 2):

root@3853f9ec9819:/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric# peer channel fetch oldest allarewelcome.block -c allarewelcome --orderer orderer.example.com:7050

I come across the following error:

2020-04-22 11:11:41.491 UTC [channelCmd] InitCmdFactory -> INFO 001 Endorser and orderer connections initialized
2020-04-22 11:11:41.493 UTC [cli.common] readBlock -> INFO 002 Got status: &{NOT_FOUND}
Error: can't read the block: &{NOT_FOUND}

Any suggestions so I can progress further will be much appreciated.

Thanks

    Hi @kcribb12

    Did you run the ./bootstrap.sh script when you started the network? If so then peer0 should automatically join the channel, or is it peer1 you are trying to join?

    If you did not run the script, check your starterFiles ==> config folder, see if the allarewelcome.tx file is there. If it is not, then the channel artifact has not been created yet.

    You can also check the orderer log by typing docker logs --details ordererID

    Let me know how it goes. The above command (-- details ordererID) is very useful, so please take a look and let me know what the log says.

    @Niklaskkkk Thanks for your reply, I've checked to see if the allarewelcome.tx file is there and it is.

    From what I can tell by the lab 2 text, I believe it is asking me to join peer 1.

    When I type in (-- details ordererID) in two different scenarios I get the following ouputs:

    kcribb12@kcribb12-MACH-WX9:~/Desktop/fabric-samples/startFiles$ --details ordererID
    --details: command not found

    AND

    root@3853f9ec9819:/opt/gopath/src/github.com/hyperledger/fabric# --details ordererID
    bash: --details: command not found

    So I may need more guidance in executing this command correctly.

    I have listed the output before hand to add more context:

    kcribb12@kcribb12-MACH-WX9:~/Desktop/fabric-samples/startFiles$ docker-compose -f docker-compose.yml up -d peer0.org1.example.com peer1.org1.example.com cli

    Hi @kcribb12 !

    First, you need to put in the actual orderer ID in the command, not the text. So, first do a docker ps -a, then you find the ID of all your running containers. Copy paste the one for the orderer, then run the command "--details insertIDyoucopypastedhere"

    I also see your containers have been running for 15 hours, so there migth be some changes you did earlier that has not been reset.

    I would recommend you to prune the whole network, and restart from lab1. This will be good for you, as you will get a better understanding for the netowrk process, how docker works and CLI practice.

    Let me know if there are still issues, and good luck!
