CanoScan Lide 300 on Ubuntu

I bought a CanoScan LiDE 300 because it is listed as Complete support on the list of SANE: Supported Devices. However, when I plugged it in today it doesn't work.

When my system boots, the scanner makes some movement. I do a 'lsusb' and it shows up there. I installed the Canon scanner driver. I also went through the sane_Troubleshooting guide.

When I do a 'sane-find-scanner' the scanner is located, but 'scanimage -L' says "No scanners were identified." 'xsane' also does not find the scanner. I get the same results run from my account or root.

What else can I do?

FYI: 'uname -a' gives: Linux penguin 4.15.0-64-generic #73-Ubuntu SMP Thu Sep 12 13:16:13 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
