Slack Space

I am an adjunct teacher at my local community college teaching introduction to linux. I am looking for idea for an in-class exercise to demonstrate slack space but I don't want to get in-depth with forensics software. I was thinking that I could have the students create a large file containing only the phrase "Proprietary data" over and over again, have them delete the file, create a new small file, but show them that the "Proprietary Data" is still stored in the slack space. Any ideas? (remember, these are introductory students.)
