cd/dvd boot

Old man here, not real computer savvy. I want to install Linux on an old Compaq desktop. it does not offer booting from USB, in the BIOS, can I boot from DVD to start the removal of windows 10 and the install of Linux?

Yes, most distros allow for making a bootable cd/dvd as well as a USB. USB has just become the more popular because, like at my house, I have 4 different laptops and only one of them has a DVD drive.

Go to distrowatch.com and you will find information on hundreds of distributions, there you can download an iso image and use dvd burning software to create a bootable disc
