Executing .jar file on deepin

Hi! I'm using deepin 15.6 and would like to know if you could guide me on how to open a java app (.jar extension, especifically) as an executable via openJDK or JDK (I have both installed). I tried to use

java -jar example.jar

and it gives "Error: Unable to access jarfile". I can only seem to open it as a compressed archive, as the java apps don't show in the available options to open the file with.
