What is the best way to install linux?

what is the proper way to install Linux? If you download it will windows still run in the background because I don't want it to. Are you supposed to use a cd so linux runs very fast?

Linux is a separate Operating System that either runs alone, in Multi-Boot, as a Live CD, or as a Guest OS

Running Linux from a CD, aka Live CD, is usually meant for testing the Distribution or for Recovery.


To make the transition from Windows to Linux smoother, you could try Ubuntu with it's simple Graphical Install

The easiest ways to install Linux would be either through burning the ISO to a CD or using a USB.

For the USB method, you can download Unetbootin which allows you to either use an ISO that you have, or it can download the Distribution for you.

The Installation Steps for Windows are rather simple:

If using Windows, run the file, select an ISO file or a distribution to download, select a target drive (USB Drive or Hard Disk), then reboot once done. If your USB drive doesn't show up, reformat it as FAT32.

On the case you describe, when Linux is running then you don't need to worry as Windows is fully stopped.

Personally, I'd advice the Ubuntu installer. It can permits that you launch the Linux installation direction from inside Windows. When you start the computer, you get the choice between either booting Windows or Linux (Ubuntu on this case).

If for some reason you had enough, it makes easy to remove the installed Linux without affecting the original Windows installation. In overall, I find it a very reachable way of starting to use Linux in full time.

Another option you might want to consider are Virtual Machines. You can run Linux inside a virtual machine and start to learn without much difficulty. If you'd like to try, look for tutorials that show you how to install a Linux distribution inside a virtual machine such as a VirtualBox.

Well unetbootin and make an cd or usb stick to start from.
easiest way to test it out, but keep in mind that even if somethings messed up in live mode doesnt mean it is that way once installed.
And once installed theres probably alot of workarounds
