Dell E6510 laptop weak audio from internal speakers

I wonder if this is endemic to this model. It passes the Dell tests, and does not seem to

be due to the "pin" question on the jack. (The Dell forum could not log me in at the moment,

so figured I'd ask here.) When an external audio system is plugged in, that works well, but

the internal speakers produce a weak and tinny sound, unlike the speakers in an earlier

Dell laptop, an E1505, which was quite loud and useful, altho certainly not hi-fi!

Have tested with YouTube under PCLOS.
