Changing Hostname of Linux Crouton

Hello all,

I am a relative Linux newbie. I have an hp chromebook 14 that I installed Linux Elementary (Precise 12.04) with crouton on. What I am wondering is how to change the hostname of the Linux side of the laptop. When I try /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname nothing changes. Is there another way to do this? Am I not allowed to, since I am simultaneously running chromium and crouton? Any ideas?
