Skype Microphone Doesnt Work

I have Linux Mint and I can use video and hear fine with the headset and the microphone does work (in Windows and IP phone etc), but when I'm in Skype the microphone doesnt work.

On Sound Devices it says "It appears your system has PulseAudio running: to change sound settings you need to use your desktop manager volume control or pulseaudio volume control.

Ok, I do not know where\how to access those things. I cannot find pulseaudio settings anywhere or anything that says desktop manager.

Please help someone, thanks.

  • Assumed your camera isn't running try as root in your favorite shell:
    sudo modprobe v4l

    To solve audio setup, edit the file '~/.asoundrc' and put something like following in it:

    pcm.pulse {
    type pulse
    }
    ctl.pulse {
    type pulse
    }
    pcm.!default {
    type pulse
    }
    ctl.!default {
    type pulse
    }

    Your desktop manager is just the primary gui that control your mouse and window based navigation such as gnome, unity in ubuntu ,kde, etc.. you do not need to focux on the name. The instructions are telling you to find the volume or sound control application and check the setting while trying to use the microphone in skype, the volume setting may be muted for that application only.
  • try to reinstall skype and it will work with you
