Welcome to the Linux Foundation Forum!

Good enough?

My cousin's computer crashed on him and I was looking around and found a Dell Latitude c600/c500 hanging around. Specs are here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latc600/en/ug/specs.htm

If I up the RAM a bit and put on a ligh distro of Ubuntu or Fedora, would that be enough to hold him over for a while?

He said he really only uses his computer for surfing the web.

Thanks in advance for your help

Well wait which processor is it? The C500 has a Celeron and the C600 has a P3. Do you know which one it is?

K well actually nevermind. I would suggest possibly any one of these three; Slitaz, Puppy, or Bohdilinux. Those three all require a processor that runs up to 400 Mhz or less. That might be your best shot. And message me if you want, I'll be willing to help out all I can :)
  • It's a P3. I'll look into those. Thanks for your help!

Yes you can use ubuntu or fedora for web browsing. You can also use AntiX or debian. If you friend want likes viewing videos or sites that requires flashplayer, run linux mint which contains all the codecs for video and audi file formats. Any distro can be used to for web browsing.
