How to install OpenSuse 11.4 KDE iso through USB

in openSUSE

I have downloaded the OpenSuse 11.4 iso. My problem is that my DVD drive is not working so I used suse image writer from the OpenSuse website to make a bootable usb but it hangs after the boot,please suggest me a way out from this as how to install it from the pen drive? I have presently

Linux Mint 10 & Win7 installed as my OS.:(

    Have you checked the ISO for errors?

    Have you set to boot from USB in BIOS?

    Is it the "openSUSE-11.4-KDE-LiveCD-i686.iso?

    Have you tested to download the ISO again or move it to the USB again? (just in case something got wrong the first time)

    Have you tested UNetbootin? http://sourceforge.net/projects/unetbootin/

    I have tried both the weblinks above but it just hangs when I select live cd option or installation option from the first menu.I have not checked the ISO for any errors ,kindly tell how to check it for errors.

    You can read about it on the download page, there is a section about verifying you download:
    http://software.opensuse.org/114/en

    If you do it manually:

    You go here:
    http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.4/iso/

    You see that there is a checksums for each ISO file.

    You can use any of them, if the MD5 sum. then there is many different software to check the MD5 checksum for the ISO.

    On Linux you have the:

    md5sum <iso-file>

    You said you have Windows and Linux Mint already installed, what is your end goal?

    That has nothing to do with the topic. He can have as many OS as he wants on his computer...

    I don't know if your trying to be smart or not, but it has everything to do with the topic. I was hoping we could give him better advice if we knew what hes actually trying to accomplish.

    The op wants to install Opensuse, the reasons of why he wants to do that have nothing to do on *how*.

    With Free Operating Systems it is normal for people to install multiple distros on a single computer to test them or learn the differences, I myself once had 12 OSs physically installed on a since machine so that I could compare various operations.

    We should focus on helping the OP accomplish his goal rather than questioning the purpose.

    ok this is getting ridiculous, I never said anything was wrong with what he was doing, all I did was ask what his goal was. If he was asking me how to get to third operating system avenue and I asked where he was trying to get to; I'd be asking to give advice and possibly a better route.

    All I did was ask what he was trying to accomplish, I'm not making a whole new thread or sending a private message to ask such. So lets move on from this, I's stupid I would even have to explain myself over such a simple question.

    I agree, lets move on.

    I see that some good information has been given to the requester and would like to know if they have been able able to successfully install OpenSuse on their computer.

    Hi,

    do you have internet access on the host box you are trying to do the installation on?

    It might be a good approach for you to try installing OpenSuSE over http from one of the OpenSuSE mirrors, you will need the Start-CD-image, but maybe you can get this to boot from USB as its only a minimal OS.

    If you think thats something you might want to try, I can post up some more resources on how to accomplish that.
