installing firewall

Hi,

I want to install a web based firewall in my linux machine (ubuntu 10.04 installed on it) so as i can make a firewall with DMZ.

I have checked ipcop and then burn the bootable cd.

but then i see that it will remove the current ubuntu installation, So then i see other web based firewall like shorewall, smoothwall but all of them will remove my current linux installation.

So can you tell me if there is any free web based firewall that i can install on linux.

Thanks

Wouldn't you want to set up the DMZ in the router? Your trying to use a distro that is basically a dedicated firewall. You can't run Ubuntu and another distro at the same time, that's why it is telling you it will replace Ubuntu.
This is a link to a how-to using Cisco routers:

I've never setup a DMZ, but, I'm sure others here have. Maybe, if you give us more info on how your network is set up, someone with more experience can help you with better details.
  • You can install shorewall in ubuntu easily.
I is just that you have to issue
    apt-get install shorewall

    and it does the job.

and if you need web frontend you can install Webmin with shorewall module.

    Hope this helps.

I seriously encourage you not to build a DMZ.

Security is always welcome, even whenever you think you are "safe".
