Ubuntu machine on network not visible

Hi all,
Recently I could set one Ubuntu machine to work as print server, this was the first useful thing I do with Ubuntu other than using it as my main OS.
On the same machine, I want to make something like shared folder or better say, shared folder, and backup server (drive, computer) for all the office users, and all of them r using MS windows.
Although the print server works perfectly, I cant find it on the network using my own Ubuntu box, and sure I cant find it using the windows, OS X boxes.
Samba is there on both Ubuntu boxes, the shared folders r set, but still.. nothing can scan or see the Ubuntu box.
The Ubuntu boxes r always pingable..
Any clue?

Are you trying to locate the system in the "My Network Places" directory or are you saying that no connections can be made when calling to it by ip address?0
-
using IP address I can define the printers, I can ping, I can enter the IP address into the web browser's address bar and open ftp page, but nothing more.
When I try to find it on network places on windows machine i can't find it although the workgroup is set correctly, shares r set...0 -
Sounds like a samba issue... could you post the output of these commands:
# service smbd status # testparm # netstat -tunap | grep smb

Hi and always thanks,
I needed to come to the office to log and pass the output of the files, and the outputs r as follows:
First command: service smbd status
Output:
smbd start/running, process 639
Second Command: testparm
Output:
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
rlimit_max: rlimit_max (1024) below minimum Windows limit (16384)

if your samba server is not accessible from the Internet try to delete or comment out these two lines from your smb.conf
interfaces = 127.0.0.1/8, 192.168.0.0/24 bind interfaces only = Yes
and restart the samba daemon (just a suggestion, may not help... for some reason your samba daemon is listening only on 127.0.0.1) ... btw, what is the IP of your server, for example the output of this command:$ ifconfig

Have you solved this problem by finding the answer here at www.linux.com?0

Are you on a work-group or a domain? Is this one linux box with others that are Windows or is it a pure linux network. Is there more then one linux box, does the linux box see the other linux boxes? Break down the scenario so I can try to help some hopefully.0
