Can't escape from COMMAND LINE, get back 2 DESKTOP

Hi everyone!

I just loaded up the Ubuntu 10.04 onto a newly scratch built computer. It went to the desktop after loading up and asking for my password. I then navigated to SYS>ADMIN>DRIVERS and preceded with download of recommended drivers for Nvadia G430 on-board display adapter. Restarted the computer to activate the new drivers and it's stuck in COMMAND LINE MODE.

I tried Ctrl/Alt/F7 to escape, along with a bunch of other things but nothing will kick this puppy into the DESKTOP. Help me get this computer running, thank you all.

    I have seen this before on ubuntu installation with certain NVIDIA cards where the default nvidia driver does not work properly and forces X11 to error out. I recommend attempting the installation of the binary drivers for your card, you can find command line instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto
