  • What does it do when you select the last option, any errors?

You may have to boot into linux and edit the grub.conf file(location: /boot/grub/grub.conf or /boot/grub/menu.lst) and change the entry for Windows XP.

If Windows XP is on sda1 then the entry for Windows XP should look somehow like this:

    title Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    root (hd0,0)
    savedefault
    makeactive
    chainloader +1

It may help if you run the following command under your linux OS shell : fdisk -l and copy/paste the output here.

    I agree with Florian's questions.

By your initial information is sounds like the windows installation is on one physical drive and mint is on the second, if that is the case then it may be that mint is reading a ntfs partition on the second drive as the base windows installation rather than the true installed partition on the first physical drive. IF that is the case your bootloader will need to be modified to tell it exactly where windows is located.
