Firefox problem

Hey, I'm new to Ubuntu. When I installed it on my desktop, I had problems with Firefox right away. When I start it up, it takes about 30 sec to load the page but never completes the loading. I always get this message....

The connection has timed out

The server at start.ubuntu.com is taking too long to respond.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few

moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network

connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure

that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

The same thing comes up on Seamonkey but those are the only 2. Other browsers like Arora and Chrome work very well and have a strong connection to my LAN network, but for some reason, Flash won't work as a plugin on those. So I need either Firefox or seamonkey to work. I was going to reinstall Firefox but I have no idea how to do it. Firefox doesn't show up in the Software Center. So please any advice on getting Firefox to work or getting Flash to work on the other browsers would be appreciated.
