Can't Adjust Brightness

have tried both unbuntu netbook remix and linux mint from a usb drive on my samsung n150 but i cant adjust the brightness at all

    As I don't have the same laptop, and there might be unique commands for different brands, I can't give you exact instructions but, if you look for acpitools or xrandr in your Ubuntu repos, or do a search for "lcd" you might come up with a solution for your laptop.

    I recommend going to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs and reporting the lack of functionality as a bug so the ubuntu developers can address it in a future update.

    Does any file like (mine) exist?

    /proc/acpi/toshiba/lcd

    Maybe we can change it manually...

    PS: "find /proc -name *lcd*" to search for such a file or similar ones

    My Dell laptop has info at "/proc/acpi/video/IGPU/LCD0/brightness"

    The info in the file:
    levels: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15
    current: 15

    Locating the correct folder for the model being used, one could change the brightness manually, or, set up a key combo to do it.
