what do you think of setting up a chat room in the forum?

I have a community website, just like this. I want to put a chat room in the community to let my users to communicate with each other. what do you think of it. I went to 123 flash chat http://www.123flashchat.com/index_9.html. it seems good for linux. but a little expensive. can you recommend me some cheap or free linux chat server software?http://www.123flashchat.com/index_9.html

I've been on other forums that have tried to incorperate chat into their forums, the responses were not always pleasant. The biggest issue was that all help and conversations in the chat were not recorded for future use. I would recommend looking at setting up webpage based IRC client for the users and using an IRC channel, this can help you because you can record all activity in the IRC channel and archive it on your site for future use.

Yes, Create IRC canal it's good idea. If you don't want to use IRC so try to find using google php chat. For example PHP Free Chat.

It is very good idea.I want to put a chatroom in my website too. can anybody tell me the difference? www.123flashchat.com/index_9.html is flash chat, while phpchat is php.

That isn't a big difference. Flash Chat is usually nicer than php chat, but I recommend to use PHP chat because it's better in terms of functionality.
