x10 home control feedback?

I have some components for the x10 home remote control system and I wanted to hook up and install some software and hardware or other to run the system under Linux (whichever version). I'd like to hear feedback from anyone about ease of use, cost, flexibility, etc. Negative reports are also very welcome.
