video driver help for effects

when i go to enable the nvidia accelerated graphics driver i get a systemerror: failed to lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock

and i dont know wat to do with tht if any1 could help me

The message means that something else is using the package manager at that moment, you need to close any add/remove program, synaptic package manager, repository list or update manager windows that may be open. Sometime some of those programs terminate abnormally and leave the file locked, in those cases I just reboot the system to remove the lock, but a more experienced Ubuntu user may have a simple command that can unlock it for you without requiring a reboot.
